Objective: The Via Regia – for a new economic core zone in Europe

The “Via Regia”, a transport corridor along the historical trade route from Paris to Kiev, connects European metropoles and cities from Erfurt, Dresden and Berlin via Wrocław and Kraków to Lviv (Ukraine). Already today this area with more than 37 million inhabitants represents an important European economic region, and it has the potential for further growth. To reach this aim efficient infrastructures are needed as well as a joint identity.

This is the starting point of the CENTRAL EUROPE project Via Regia Plus, a joint operation of fourteen cities and institutions from Germany, Poland, Slovakia and the Ukraine. Lead by the Municipality of Wrocław the project partners elaborate strategies aimed at the sustainable development and the strengthening of the entire region. The goals are:

− an improved accessibility of the cities and regions,

− the strengthening of cities and metropolitan areas as “motors of development”,

− the activation of potentials for tourism.
